Dear Friend,

The nuclear treaty with Iran, still up for ratification with the U.S.
Congress, would establish a framework for rigorous oversight of nuclear
activities in Iran, contrary to what we hear from those who oppose it.

In the New York Times article “29 U.S. Scientists Praise Iran Nuclear Deal
in Letter to Obama,” William J. Broad writes that six Nobel laureates
signed the letter. They are: “…Philip W. Anderson of Princeton
University; Leon N. Cooper of Brown University; Sheldon L. Glashow of
Boston University; David Gross of the University of California, Santa
Barbara; Burton Richter of Stanford University; and Frank Wilczek of the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology.” (“29 U.S. Scientists Praise Iran
Nuclear Deal in Letter to Obama,” by William J. Broad,New York Times, Aug.
8, 2015, www.nytimes.com).

Moreover, Broad informs us, “The letter notes criticism that the Iran
accord, after 10 years, will let Tehran potentially develop nuclear arms
without constraint. ‘In contrast,’ it says, ‘we find that the deal
includes important long-term verification procedures that last until 2040,
and others that last indefinitely.'” (Ibid.)

In a letter to azcentral.com, Cordell Overgaard of Scottsdale told about
his experience of a phone forum sponsored by Rep. David Schweikert, the
present District 6 congressman. Overgaard summed up what he learned from
listening to that forum: “It is clear Schweikert would oppose the Iran
agreement no matter what it said.” (“Schweikert would oppose Iran deal
regardless of details,” Aug. 10, 2015, www.azcentral.com).

I am in favor of Obama’s nuclear treaty with Iran and, if I was now in
Congress, would vote for it. When elected your congressman in November of
2016, I will support the treaty’s terms because it provides rigorous
enforcement to protect against Iran developing nuclear weapons. As an
educator myself, I agree with the educators cited above–all Nobel Prize
winners–who support the treaty.

If you agree with my position on the nuclear treaty with Iran, I ask that
you consider contributing to my congressional campaign. Please check out

Thank you for your time.
