Dear Friend,

Sooner or later it had to happen: My daughter turned 26 in May and was no
longer eligible to be on my health insurance at work through The
Affordable Care Act.

So she signed up for Obamacare, waiting until the last minute, in keeping
with her flair for drama. Her coverage on my plan expired on May 31, so
she had to get to work to make sure she would have coverage by June 1.

The key is to call that 800 number that appears on the screen. That got
her in touch with a navigator who told her about the various plan
offerings. She had an excellent PPO plan when on my Blue Cross Blue Shield
plan with the school district where I work.

Six or seven Blue Cross Blue Shield plans were available on Obamacare for
her. She also looked at some Health Net plans. She chose one of the Blue
Cross Blue Shield plans that was basically the same as the one she had
with my insurance. She got a tax credit which lowers her premium
significantly. Her monthly premium is probably not the lowest, since it’s
a PPO and does not skimp on anything. But it’s about 60% less than the
$400 per month I was paying for her when she was on my work coverage. Her
new plan has a low deductible as well.

According to the New York Times, “Nearly 11.7 million people have either
signed up or re-enrolled for insurance coverage under the U.S. healthcare
reform law, more than the 9.1 million predicted by the Obama
administration, health officials said on Tuesday.” (New York Times, April
1, 2015.)

When elected your congressman, I will continue my support for the
Affordable Care Act, as I have since I first ran for Congress in 2012.
It’s a great law, and it’s successful. “Although Obama’s Affordable Care
Act still has its share of problems, it is succeeding in reducing the
number of Americans without coverage. Congressional budget analysts
estimate that about 19 million fewer people will be uninsured in 2015 than
would have been the case without the law.” (New York Times, Jan. 27,
2015.)

guidelines for making donations are detailed there. Before long, it will
be time to gather signatures on nomination petitions and funding will be
needed to support that effort. Support my Democratic candidacy in
Congressional District 6.

The Future Can Be Ours if we keep up our support for Obamacare and
encourage people to sign up for it. My daughter recently did that, and
things are looking good now for her continued health care coverage. One
reason our nation is great is because Congress cared enough about our own
people to pass the Affordable Care Act. Now it is up to those who will be
in Congress in the years afterward to continue to support the
healthcare reform law and keep it strong.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,
John
