Dear Friend,
I am very pleased to let you know that PAUL LOWES, President of the
Phoenix Union Classroom Teachers Association, will be our guest speaker on
Saturday, November 22, at 2:00 PM at DENNY’S at Scottsdale and Osborn
Roads. His topic will be: “Whither Education in Arizona with Diane Douglas
as Superintendent of Public Instruction?” A question and answer period
will follow MR. LOWES’ presentation.
Some controversy has accompanied Republican Diane Douglas’ rise to
impending power as Arizona’s Superintendent-Elect of Public Instruction.
Her stance against the Common Core State Standards set her apart from her
Democratic opponent, David Garcia. As you may know, a Recall Diane Douglas
campaign has already begun in response to her election.
PAUL LOWES will give us his viewpoint as the head of one of the most
active associations of teachers in our state. PAUL is currently in his
second term as president of the Phoenix Union High School District’s CTA.
Prior to assuming that role, he taught History at North High School for
many years, most recently in the I.B., International Baccalaureate,
program. A constant student of History, PAUL will give us his historian’s
perspective on this most recent, and what not a few find disturbing,
development in our state’s educational history.
What impact on and in what direction does PAUL see Superintendent-elect
Douglas taking our state’s public education system?
Please be sure to attend PAUL LOWES’ talk on Saturday, November 22, at
2:00 PM at DENNY’S at Scottsdale and Osborn Roads. You will enjoy meeting
PAUL, one of our area’s dynamic educational leaders, and engaging in a
dialog with him about this timely and newsworthy topic.
Please RSVP if you are going to attend.
Please remember that DENNY’S requires that each person attending purchase
a meal or significant dessert.
I look forward to seeing you there! The public is invited. And, of course, bring a friend!
Sincerely,
John
